Sunday Feature
This past Sunday, our Sunday School and Children & Youth Departments offered a powerful tribute to our ancestral heritage as we concluded Black History Month. Their reflections, presentations, and participation in worship highlighted our shared responsibility to bridge the generations and to pass on the richness of our history to those who will shape the future.
The African (Zulu) proverb, “A tree is bent while it is still wet,” reminds us that meaningful change begins with intentional investment in the young. This truth was beautifully displayed as our multigenerational congregation worshiped together — elders and youth standing side by side in praise, learning, and celebration.
Scripture reinforces this calling: “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)
This commitment to train for change honors the legacy of our ancestors, strengthens our present community, and fuels hope for the generations to come.
In doing so, we continue to embody the Dream of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and echo the prophetic words of Sam Cooke that “a change is gonna come.” We thank every teacher, leader, parent, and child who contributed to this meaningful celebration of heritage, unity, and hope.
